Back in the days this Island was a prison to African leaders, Muslim leaders from the East Indies, Dutch and British soldiers and civilians, women, and anti-apartheid activists, including South Africa's first democratic President, Nelson Mandela and leaders such as Robert Sobukwe, Govan Mbeki, Jacob Zuma were all imprisoned on the Island, however since 1997 this institute of brutality has been turned into a museum a world heritage site and a symbol of Hope, a must see for all guests. |

Bourke’s Luck Potholes will also leave you wonderings whether life ends or begins hear, The Potholes were named after a gold digger, Tom Burke, who staked a claim nearby. Although his claim did not produce a single ounce of gold, he correctly predicted that large gold deposits would be found in the area, the panoramic splendour of the Blyde River Canyon makes it ideal for scenic drives and hiking trails. |

They house the Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg National Park with its abundant biodiversity, including 290 bird species and 48 mammal species.
